Dog Walker

We are looking for a mature, responsible, dedicated and kind person, someone who is all about the dogs and not in it for the money.

This can be a very rewarding job for someone who loves animals, but it isn't always easy, it is a REAL job and it is challenging. We provide off-leash group walks of approximately 6 dogs. We do offer training and continued support so that you will be successful in this position.

AVAILABILITY:

We are looking for someone who is available daytime hours Monday to Friday. Hours range from about 9am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate must live in the Toronto/North York area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You must have either owned dogs or worked with dogs, and be comfortable with walking dogs of all breeds and sizes together.

  • You must possess a client-focused attitude and a desire to comply with our clients' wishes/preferences regarding their dogs needs and care. We want people who care about animals AND people.

  • You must have a vehicle that can safely transport 6-8 various-sized dogs. And please keep in mind it can get very messy! Wet, dirty dogs in your car-type messy, there will be hair everywhere, nose and paw prints all over the doors and windows. If this discourages you, this job is not for you.

  • This is an independent contractor position, so gas and vehicle maintenance are your responsibilities.

  • You must have a valid driver's license and car insurance and a clean driving record.

  • You must have an active cell phone, preferably with access to email and camera. You need to be available to the office for any updates/changes on the fly.

  • You must be bondable and able to provide an up-to-date copy of a clean criminal record check and driver's abstract.

  • You must be incredibly reliable. You must enjoy (or be able to work through) being outside in the rain, snow, cold and miserable weather. The dogs never take a day off from needing a walk, so we don't either. You will need to be prepared and make sure you have the proper outdoor clothing, etc.

  • This is a long term position, so please no temps or students who aren't looking at this as such. We want someone who will really get to know their pack and understand their needs.

In-Home Dog Boarder

Do you love dogs but don't have a dog of your own? The Bark Zone is offering a unique opportunity for animal lovers to have temporary canine house guests in their home while the owners are away.

We are not a kennel. We offer home-style boarding with caring families. We are looking for loving, reliable people who are interested in taking dogs to live as part of their family while their owners are away. Experience with dogs and common sense is an absolute requirement.

You must:

* Be a dog lover.

* Have prior experience owning and/or working with dogs.

* Have a vehicle in good working condition (this is a MUST!) in order to transport dogs to and from their homes, keep in mind it can get messy.

* Be able to spend the majority of the day with the dog(s). This job would best suit someone who works remotely or who is a retiree.

* Have good decision making skills and able to follow instructions; someone who is responsible and trustworthy.

* Preferences are for those with fenced yards or dog park nearby.

* Please note in order to move forward to the hiring stage we require 3 positive references and a clear security check (at your own cost, payment up front) to be performed by The Bark Zone.

Office Manager

We're seeking an experienced Office Manager to run our day-to-day operations.

We are a small business, but we are extremely busy. Our ideal candidate must thrive on intense deadlines, sudden changes, noise, and sometimes chaos. You must be able to handle stressful situations with clarity, and you must be an expert problem solver. Our ideal candidate must take ownership of their position and work hard; with excellent attention to detail and crisis management skills.

You are:

  • A people person. You will be dealing with clients, service providers and office staff all day, every day. You must be friendly, caring, kind, professional and thorough.

  • Extremely knowledgeable when it comes to dogs. You must love dogs, but you must also know about canine behaviour, issues, equipment, breeds, and more, so that you can work through issues quickly and effectively.

  • Detail oriented and organized. Errors jump out at you – and you go through all your work with a fine-tooth comb. This said, you must be able to retain focus around multiple distractions mainly puppies/dogs.

  • Used to working in a busy small-business environment where staff wear multiple hats and everyone pitches in to get things done. If you’re accustomed to a large corporate setting with clearly defined roles, this job isn’t for you.

  • Happy to get your hands dirty and help in all situations. You’re not tied to your “job description” – no task should be beneath or above you. You give credit where credit is due. You work well as part of a team.

  • Quick on your feet, analytical and decisive. You have the ability to make tough decisions quickly with little guidance at times.

  • Accountable – if you make a mistake you own up to it. You stand by the decisions you’ve made and you have the capability to explain why you chose to do what you did.

  • Not easily intimidated. You can hold your own with confidence and grace.

  • Excellent people management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Have at least five years’ experience in an office manager or equivalent position;

  • Have experience managing the schedules of multiple employees/service providers;

  • Have experience managing a small team including the handling of HR-related tasks;

  • Be proficient using Excel and Word;

  • Be a quick learner when using new software programs;

  • Have a bachelor’s degree;

  • Have a valid Ontario driver’s license;

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills; no typos or poor grammar;

  • Have superior conflict resolutions skills;

  • Know Toronto inside and out – you must know general areas within our service area and their relation to dog parks and trails;

  • Previous vet office management or dog daycare management an asset;

  • Previous routing/mapping experience an asset, such as with delivery or taxi service or logistics coordination.

Duties will include:

  • Managing our dog trainer’s schedule

  • Creating and overseeing schedules for multiple contractors

  • Managing/revising dog walker schedules and routes

  • Booking client services and managing their daily schedules

  • Providing contractor and client support

  • Overseeing two administrative coordinators

  • Selling services to new/potential clients

  • Welcoming new clients and setting them up in our system

  • Client and contractor invoicing

  • Dealing with issues or conflicts as they arise

  • Assisting with daycare dogs

  • Providing recommendations and support to dog owners
